Spring is just around the corner and every one of us gardening enthusiasts knows that spring is the season for establishing a lawn. Today, let's take a look together at how to choose the right grass seed for your garden.
For your lawn to flourish with green, you need not only proper care, but most importantly the right seed. Selecting the seed is the most important part of establishing lawns. Each grass species (ryegrass, fescue, bluegrass) grows differently, tolerates different loads, has a different colour and also different growth requirements.
So first, think carefully about what requirements you have for your lawn and what requirements your garden offers to the grass species. What exactly are we evaluating?

The conditions for proper growth of grass species are primarily light conditions. Will your new lawn grow mainly in full sun, partial shade or shade? Don't forget about the moisture conditions of the site either! Once you've answered all the questions above, we can dive into selecting the grass mixture!
Almost every family garden will appreciate a mixture designed for ornamental lawns. However, these grass species won't tolerate too much load. If your garden serves as a place where the whole family, including children, actively relaxes, I recommend choosing grass mixtures for sports areas or special wear-resistant ornamental lawns. This lawn regenerates very quickly and well and tolerates trampling.
Seeds with names like regeneration and restoration indicate seed that is used for older lawns to overseed bare spots and repair damaged lawns.
Grass mixtures called meadow or pasture are intended for utility lawns that can be grown for hay or feeding. 
A very modern solution for larger gardens is sowing a flowering meadow. If you're a nature lover and want to please not only yourself but also the local small animal inhabitants of your garden with a pleasant shelter, don't hesitate and get seed called flowering meadow. Daisies and other flowering plants will delight your eye and this lawn is almost maintenance-free! Moreover, you can create a beautiful contrast with low and high-mown lawn, or use it to cover an old unsightly fence.
How Much Will You Need?
You can easily calculate how many kg of seed you'll need based on the size of your plot. Typically, you'll need 20-25 g/m² of seed for sowing a new ornamental lawn. The specific dosage will always be indicated on the seed packaging. Don't forget that you'll need to overseed the lawn during the year. It's better to get a bit more seed than you think you'll need.
