In the damp and still relatively warm autumn weather, black spot thrives. You can easily identify it by the dark, gradually expanding spots on the upper side of the leaves. If you don't treat the roses in time with a spray (such as Discus or Dithane DG Neotec), the fungus will attack other parts of the plant and the weakened rose will freeze. Since the spores spread through the air, black spot will also threaten other roses in the vicinity. Spray them preventively as well, just to be safe. Remove all damaged leaves, collect those that have already fallen, and dispose of them.
Prune rose bushes and standards - no more than five to eight buds from the bottom, in a way that doesn't make the plant too dense and so that the branches don't cross.
Protect roses from frost with conifer branches. You can also mound up soil and cover the first buds.
